Unusual lighting for your event

There are so many different ways in which you can light up your events, here's some unusual yet appealing ideas.

Large light up letters are becoming increasingly popular especially amongst weddings and brand launch events. Many people will have 'MR & MRS' or 'LOVE' lit up at a wedding or for a brand event you'll often see the brand name lit up to stand out.

Paper lanterns are a cheap yet very effective method of lighting for your event. The thing I like the most about this is that there are so many different designs available.

Something which works well for evening events like a dinner dance or an event held in a barn are fairy light canopies. These are currently my favourite type of event lighting as they work for so many different events and really stand out making a bland venue much more appealing through the use of lighting.

Uplighting is something you see a lot at award evenings and corporate event as they are very simplistic and can really set the mood of an event.

Edison bulb lighting aren't as commonly used as some of the others but are still very unusual and are a good way to put emphasis on a certain area of an event.

Many people are beginning to run raffles alongside their event, particularly charity and fundraising events to raise that little bit extra. When sourcing raffle prizes you’ll often look to seek donations rather than go and buy them yourself to make more profit. But what’s the best way to go about this you ask...

To start with you need to draft a letter stating that you’re looking for raffle prize donations, where you’re from/who you work for, what the raffle is for and what the money raised will go towards. Generally this should be enough information for them to decide whether or not it is a cause they want to help, alternatively leave your contact details and they will be in touch.

Once you have the letter drafted you should physically go round local companies. Places that are worth visiting will be salons, beauticians and restaurants who often donate vouchers.

After you have been to local shops follow it up with an email and begin approaching alternative companies like local attractions, gyms, local fitness classes and independent hamper and wine shops. Many of these will be interested but are better to approach by email to be passed on to the appropriate person.

There are many larger companies like Tescos and Next who help out a lot of charities, these companies tend to have a generic charity email address which you will find on their website.

Another way you may be able to source raffle prizes it to approach companies that you have a good relationship with who may be willing to help out with raffle prizes in return for some promotion.

Seeking raffle prizes can be a very long process and you’ll often wait a week or 2 for a response. Don’t be disheartened when you get turned down; many companies have their own chosen charity and are loyal to working with them.

Top 5 entertainment ideas for your event

Photo booths are becoming increasingly popular at events. There are so many different variations, from branded booths, instagram booths, video booths and even photo booths in a horse box. Some photo booths come with a very big price tag but if you shop around you can often find great deals and exactly what you want.

Hiring in a magician is a great idea for sit down dinners or dances as it adds a bit of entertainment throughout the night, some magicians also do themed packages like ipad magic.

Traditional picnic games is a simple and cheap entertainment idea which can work really well at weddings. You can have games like toss the welly, bowling and sack races.

Something which might not be for everyone but can also go down a hit is a Karaoke booth, there aren’t as many of these about as photo booths so you may struggle to hire one in your area but a great souvenir and memory from any event.

Mobile casinos are a great idea for fundraisers or adult events to add unique entertainment for the evening.

Unusual ways to display your flower centre piece

A way to make your tables really stand at any event is to have an effective centre piece. The most common centre piece idea is flowers, but there are so many unusual and different ways to display your flowers to appear different to any other event your guests have been to.

Putting your flowers in or around a bird cage can appear really elegant and appealing at many events, particularly weddings. This is a very pretty design and will go well with a very traditional style event.

If your looking at creating an effective centre piece on a budget this is a great idea. All you need is a mason jar for every table and divide flowers between each jar giving a very simplistic but beautiful look to any event.

If your looking for a more sophisticated appearance for your centre piece a fish bowl or vase is perfect. Putting your flower display in a vase or fish bowl can give a really sophisticated look which can work really well at award evenings.

I like this final concept as a centre piece as it allows you to personalise it however you want by getting the crate engraved. Again, this is something which you could do yourself and will look great for events being held in a barn or that have a rustic theme.
